Welcome to “Come Unto Me” as we journey together through the gospel of Luke. Let us pray: Gracious God we thank you for the Living Word that gives witness to the life, death, resurrection and ascension of Jesus Christ. May your Holy Spirit open our souls to this Living Word. Amen
Sunday, July 5 / Luke Chapter 1
How does one begin to capture all the richness of what Luke share with us in chapter 1. What caught your attention?
* Was it the account of an angel coming to Zechariah with the news that his prayer for a child had been heard?
*Or was it the account of the angel Gabriel coming to Mary with similar but certainly surprising news that she would bear a son?
*Or was it the account of Mary’s visit with Elizabeth that brought her such great joy?
*Or was it that beautiful song sung by Mary and the prophetic words spoken by Zechariah?
No matter what caught your attention it is clear that God was at work. What may have seemed impossible at first was being brought to fruition by God. “For nothing will be impossible with God.” (Luke 1:37) Really? Nothing will be impossible with God? There is no doubt in my mind that Zechariah, Mary & Elizabeth wondered what God was up to. Yet the Holy Spirit helped them to embrace the impossible in faith. Remember what Mary said “Here I am, the servant of the Lord; Let it be with me according to your word.” (Luke 1:38)
Have there been times in your life when you have wondered what God was up to? I do not have the answer to this question for you. But I know who we can go to as we wonder. Remember the invitation from Jesus – “Come unto me.”
